Friends of Corryong Library are pleased to announce that the 2015 Award Categories are now open.
An invitation to women and men who appreciate the country and country life.
Elyne was born in Melbourne, married Tom Mitchell in 1935 and then lived on the family property at Towong Hill, near Corryong.
Best remembered for the Silver Brumby series of children’s books, Elyne also wrote many nonfiction books and other novels.
She received a number of awards including: an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from Charles Sturt University (1993); Order of Australia Medal for services to literature (1990); and various Children’s Book Council awards (1959-1968).
The Elyne Mitchell Writing Award commemorates Elyne’s life and work, and has been established to encourage all writers to focus their stories on the Australian rural landscape.
ABIF encourages all budding story tellers to enter this competition and support a great rural initiative.
